At least part of the TODD SCHNITT-BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE defamation case has been settled, as SCHNITT and BUBBA's employer COX RADIO have reached a settlement, reports the TAMPA BAY TIMES' ERIC DEGGANS.
SCHNITT, who is suing BUBBA for defamation about himself and his wife, and COX reportedly settled on FRIDAY, before jury selection was to start in the case. Terms of the settlement remain confidential.
Meanwhile, a jury has been selected in the case, in which COMPASS MEDIA NETWORKS host and former CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ (as MJ KELLI) and Talk WFLA-A/TAMPA host SCHNITT and his wife are suing crosstown COX MEDIA GROUP Talk WHPT (104.5 THE BONE) host BUBBA for "false, highly offensive and defamatory statements." Late WEDNESDAY (1/16), BUBBA took the stand to start the case, saying that he had only attacked SCHNITT's on-air persona MJ and not the man himself. The TIMES reports that jurors heard tapes of BUBBA calling SCHNITT's wife a "whore," while BUBBA cited the market's long history of "radio wars," like the POWER PIG vs. Q105 fight. The SCHNITTS contend in their suit that BUBBA accused TODD SCHNITT of taking "plugola" and ripped his wife, then Assistant State Attorney, for working on prosecuting BUBBA for the on-air slaughter and barbecue of a wild boar in 2001.
