TODAY (1/29) the COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION (CMA) held its annual CMA LUNCHEON at NASHVILLE’s MARATHON MUSIC WORKS where they presented songwriters with CMA TRIPLE PLAY AWARDS.
The CMA TRIPLE PLAY AWARDS honors songwriters who have written three chart-topping hits within a 12 month period. SONY/ATV MUSIC PUBLISHING Pres./CEO TROY TOMLINSON presented the award to 12 songwriters this year. The recipients were DIERKS BENTLEY, CHRIS YOUNG, ERIC CHURCH, LADY ANTEBELLUM’s DAVE HAYWOOD and CHARLES KELLEY, ERIC PASLAY, BRANTLEY GILBERT, JOSH KEAR, BEN HAYSLIP, RODNEY CLAWSON, NEIL THRASHER and SHANE McANALLY.
"People from all over the world recognize that NASHVILLE is not only MUSIC CITY, but the epicenter of the songwriting community. CMA celebrates this important membership group. The presentation of the TRIPLE PLAY AWARDS is just another example of CMA’s commitment to honoring the creators of song," said TROY TOMLINSON. "It is an honor to present these songwriters and songwriting artists with the TRIPLE PLAY AWARD and acknowledge this incredible accomplishment and their significant contributions to our format," added CMA CEO STEVE MOORE.
In other news from the CMA, TODAY (1/30), the CMA FOUNDATION announced that they’re donating $250,000 to help construct the first-ever physical NASHVILLE SONGWRITER’S HALL OF FAME at the new MUSIC CITY CENTER in NASHVILLE. The announcement was made by CMA BOARD Chairman and CMA FOUNDATION member, TROY TOMLINSON.
"Songwriters are an important constituency group for the CMA," said TOMLINSON. "For the CMA FOUNDATION to see fit to honor the songwriters in order to preserve the legacy of their work and creative impact on the format, speaks to the very heart of why the CMA FOUNDATION was created."
