COX MEDIA GROUP (CMG) has agreed to sell clusters in six markets to two different radio groups. The broadcast realignment, announced in JULY 2012 (NET NEWS, 7/20/12), is part of CMG’s strategy to focus on larger markets, cross-media collaboration, and heightened impact in fewer markets.
Specifically, SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT radio stations WPLR, WEZN, WFOX and contract rights for WYBC are being sold to CONNOISSEUR MEDIA. CMG has also sold its clusters in RICHMOND, BIRMINGHAM, HAWAII, LOUISVILLE and GREENVILLE, SC to SUMMIT MEDIA.
The stations being sold in BIRMINGHAM include WAGG-A, WBHJ, WBHK, WENN-A, WZZK, WZNN, WBPT and CMG’s contract rights for WALJ; RICHMOND stations WHTI, WKHK, WKLR and WURV; LOUISVILLE's WRKA, WVEZ, WSFR and WQNU; HAWAII's KRTR-A/F, KPHW, KCCN, KINE and KKNE-A; and GREENVILLE, SC's WJMZ and WHZT.
"These are all important brands powered by talented media professionals who tirelessly serve their audiences, advertisers and communities," CMG Pres. DOUG FRANKLIN said. "We wish all of the employees well and know they will continue to work hard to produce quality entertainment, news and information for their customers and new owners."
"We are honored and privileged to welcome these terrific radio stations into the CONNOISSEUR family," CONNOISSEUR CEO JEFFREY D. WARSHAW said. "The stations have an impeccable history of community service and high quality broadcasting. We are excited to be working with the tremendous team that Market Manager KRISTIN OKESSON has led to great success. It is particularly gratifying to own these stations in our own back yard."
