The BBC has upped Head of News HELEN BOADEN to Director of BBC RADIO. BOADEN's appointment and the return of former Culture Secretary JAMES PURNELL to the network as Director, Strategy and Digital were among the first moves to be announced by new Director General TONY HALL as he prepares to take office in APRIL.
BOADEN, who briefly took leave in NOVEMBER during the investigation into the JIMMY SAVILE scandal but returned after the review found no evidence of a cover-up by management after a "NEWSNIGHT" report on SAVILE's conduct was spiked, said, "It is a huge pleasure to be returning to my first love of radio. I look forward to working with our outstanding controllers and some of the most creative on and off air talent in the BBC. The British public love BBC RADIO and I intend to cherish and champion it."
Head of BBC Newsgathering FRAN UNSWORTH will be Acting Head of News starting on MARCH 19th.
