CLEAR CHANNEL News-Talk WFLA-A/TAMPA news anchor MARTIN GILES is retiring from the station on MARCH 1st, reports the TAMPA BAY TIMES' ERIC DEGGANS. GILES, 76, has been with WFLA for 28 years and is citing a heavy workload, including the need to file reports for CLEAR CHANNEL stations in other markets like ORLANDO, JACKSONVILLE, TALLAHASSEE, and elsewhere for his departure.
GILES was with ABC RADIO and WTSP-TV/ST. PETERSBURG-TAMPA before joining WFLA in 1985. He was involved in a health scare in 2011 involving stumbling over words on the air that led to hospitalization for pneumonia and a brain infection three months later.
