Among the topics discussed were the importance of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, presently being challenged before the Supreme Court (“It is very important that we work together so that everyone gets a chance to vote, and that we do away with any new ‘tricks and schemes’ to keep people from voting”); the possible sequestration cuts; and the new ROSA PARKS statue to be unveiled in the U.S. Capitol (“She represented better than anybody the kind of strength and determination that so many ordinary Americans show every single day in pursuit of a better country”).
