The annual RTNDA/BALL STATE UNIVERSITY study of minority and female representation in broadcast newsrooms shows that the percentage of women and minorities in radio news dropped in 2005.
Minority representation fell from 7.9% to 6.4%, while the number of women fell from 27.5% to 24.8%. The study noted that while the minority polulation in the U.S. grew by 7.7% over the past 16 years, minority representation in radio news actually fell 4.4%. The numbers contrast sharply with TV news, where minority representation rose from 21.1% to 22.2% in 2005 and females showed an increase from 39.3% to 40%.
