CUMULUS/HOUSTON Market Mgr. PAT FANT has announced that Top 40 KRBE morning duo ATOM SMASHER (atomsmasher@Houston.rr.com; 713-269-0501) and MARIA TODD are exiting the station, along with producer JOSH RENO (joshreno@yahoo.com; 832-723-0132) and stunt guy JOHNNY BRAVO, effective immediately. TODD is a 15-year veteran of KRBE mornings, and SMASHER has been with KRBE for 8 years, including nights and afternoons before moving to mornings a year ago.
FANT said, "We are grateful to ATOM and MARIA for their years of service. I am confident that they will both continue to enjoy great success in their broadcast careers."
He indicated that KRBE's new morning show would begin on MONDAY, JULY 24th, adding, "We are taking steps to ensure KRBE’s continued market dominance, in pursuit of an audience that will reflect the vibrant personality of our city while serving the needs of our advertisers. Our decision is based on research and a review of evolving market conditions and we are confident that our new, world class morning show lineup will take the station to even greater heights while engaging an even bigger audience."
And, this just in, after 19 years with KRBE, SCOTT SPARKS leaves his recently assigned Dir./NTR post to do mornings at crosstown COX Classic Hits outlet KLDE. SPARKS was best known for his midday show at KRBE for many years.
All of this on the heels of KRBE PD TRACY AUSTIN's resignation to join NOVA 106.9/BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA on WEDNESDAY (NET NEWS 7/5). The hunt for her replacement is underway.
