FLINN Top 40 WHBQ/WIVG (Q107.5/96.1)/MEMPHIS switches simulcast of WIVG 96.1 to Alternative as 96X under OM CHRIS TAYLOR. The market has been without an Alternative station since ENTERCOM flipped WMFS (93X) to Sports almost four years ago. The 96X moniker began in MEMPHIS in the mid-to-late-'90s on then-CLEAR CHANNEL Alternative WRXQ at 95.7 FM.
TAYLOR told ALL ACCESS, "After an extensive market study it was determined that this style of music was under served in the mid-south. There was a audience that were fans of the former 96X that were looking for a home. We are happy to give them a brand new radio station that will bring alternative music back to MEMPHIS."
The new MEMPHIS Alternative station is online at 96xmemphis.com.
