The STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER reports that five on-air staffers were let go from MID-WEST FAMILY BROADCASTING's SPRINGFIELD, IL cluster last week.
The layoffs included Talk WMAY-A host RAY LYTLE and news anchor/producer BARB FERGUSON-FEES, Active Rock KQLZ hosts RYAN "BODINE" LYTLE (RAY's brother) and JEFF "THE DAWG" FREDERICKS, and Triple A WLCE (ALICE@97.7) host JOY ZETTLER.
WMAY's lineup now includes weekend real estate show host FRITZ PFISTER with a political show 9-10a (CT) weekdays, followed by newsman and weekend host GREG BISHOP 10a-noon.
GM MARK BIRTCH gave the paper a statement saying that the company had made "some internal changes to improve operating efficiency. These are business moves necessary to enhance our ability to serve our listeners and clients. Unfortunately, some staffing adjustments are a part of these moves. For those who are affected, we will provide all appropriate assistance and wish them all the best in their future endeavors. And we will continue to provide the highest-quality programming and marketing strategies for our listeners and advertisers.”
