FCC Upholds 2007 Sale, Rejects LPFM Applicant's Appeal, Proposes Fine Against CB Radio Operator

The FCC has denied an application by RADIO PALOUSE, INC. for review of the 2007 grant of the sale by PALOUSE COUNTRY, INC. of Country KZZL/PULLMAN, WA and Hot AC KRAO (myRADIO 102.5), Country KCLX-A, and Talk KMAX-A/COLFAX, WA to INLAND NORTHWEST BROADCASTING, LLC.  The appeal was based on the use of contour-overlap analysis to determine multiple ownership status, which RADIO PALOUSE contended should not have been used in the specific market, saying that the Commission should have defined the market as stations licensed to three specific communities.

Also rejected was an appeal by HOPE RADIO OF ROLLA, INC. of the dismissal of its application for a new low-power FM in ROLLA, MO.  The original application was dismissed because it claimed that the applicant was incorporated as of JANUARY 22, 2001, but the company was not actually incorporated until FEBRUARY 15, 2001.

And even Citizens Band radio is subject to FCC scrutiny, which a PITTSBURGH man is finding out the hard way.  The Commission has proposed a $18,000 fine against NATHANIEL JOHNSON because he did not make his CB station available for inspection after neighbors complained of interference to their radio and television reception.

Also, the FCC has announced that the FM construction permit auction 94 is officially closed, with 55 bidders winning 93 CPs netting $4,122,604 for the Commission, and winning bidders now must make their deposits by 6 PM (ET) on MAY 29th.  Final balances are due by JUNE 12th at 6 PM (ET).
