ESPN RADIO has inked deals for out-of-market SUNDAY afternoon game broadcasts for the NEW YORK GIANTS, NEW YORK JETS, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, PITTSBURGH STEELERS, and MIAMI DOLPHINS, reports SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL.
The deals allow ESPN to broadcast games outside the teams' territories but not within the clubs' present terrestrial radio network areas, similar to deals other syndicators, including COMPASS MEDIA NETWORKS (including the OAKLAND RAIDERS and DALLAS COWBOYS), DIAL GLOBAL, and SPORTS USA, have with the other 27 franchises. Games also cannot be broadcast in markets where a local NFL team is playing at the same time.
“Adding the NFL to ESPN RADIO’s play-by-play mix, which already includes MLB, NBA, BCS, and the new college football championship starting in 2015, strengthens an already unparalleled and valuable lineup to advertisers, our affiliates and sports fans,” said ESPN SVP, Production Business Divisions TRAUG KELLER. “We are excited to enter the NFL game business.” HERM EDWARDS, BILL POLIAN, and DAMIEN WOODY are among the ESPN analysts to be assigned to the new broadcasts.
