SONY ENTERTAINMENT CEO MICHAEL LYNTON has resigned from the BROADCASTING BOARD OF GOVERNORS, where he has served since JULY 2nd, 2010 and was appointed Interim Presiding Governor in FEBRUARY, 2012.
VARIETY reports that LYNTON, in his resignation letter to President OBAMA, said that "circumstances kept me from taking part" in formal board meetings at the BBG recently; the resignation follows questions raised by CHICAGO SUN-TIMES WHITE HOUSE correspondent LYNN SWEET about LYNTON's attendance record and a State Department Inspector General's report criticizing the BBG, which oversees the VOICE OF AMERICA, RADIO/TV MARTI, and other overseas U.S. government-backed broadcasting, for poor attendance by board members.
