Sonoma Media Group Rescues July 4th Celebration

Radio Saves Petaluma Fireworks Celebration

SONOMA MEDIA GROUP's SANTA ROSA, CA cluster is coming to the rescue to guarantee the city of PETALUMA a JULY 4th fireworks display at the SONOMA MARIN FAIRGROUNDS. The PETALUMA fireworks show was in jeopardy of cancellation this year due to new developments at the fairgrounds which conflicted with safety issues.

According to SONOMA MEDIA GROUP President MICHAEL O'SHEA, "SONOMA MEDIA GROUP will pay for this year’s fireworks."  O'SHEA added, "Our five stations will all get behind this effort to assure the tradition of a great 'FAMILY FOURTH' celebration in PETALUMA, complete with fireworks!"

The festivities have been dubbed "PTOWN4TH" and will include  customized FOURTH OF JULY broadcasts from Country KFGY (FROGGY 92.9), Classic Rock KVRV (97.7 THE RIVER), Hot AC KMHX (MIX 104.9), Top 40 KHTH (HOT 101.7) and News/Talk KSRO-A live on-site from the event.  The CITY PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT will provide family games with vendors and live music, followed by the fireworks show.

According to Recreation Supervisor JAN MANDRELL, "We searched high and low for a suitable alternative where we could continue to provide our tradition display."  

Assistant City Mgr. SCOTT BRODHUN added, "A display came with risks of cancellation if weather conditions were not ideal.  I didn’t feel as though I could put city funds at any risk of cancellation.  SONOMA MEDIA GROUP’s proposal to present a more robust afternoon and evening celebration, combined with their generous commitment to fund an aerial display that fits within the site, is a tremendous opportunity - and we’re thankful for sure."
