An all-star broadcasters' band will be performing at the NAB RADIO SHOW's Marconi Awards dinner in DALLAS this year, and the band, "THE FORMATS," will feature legendary MEMPHIS guitar slinger STEVE CROPPER alongside some folks less known for their musical prowess than their radio management abilities.
FCC Commissioner JONATHAN ADELSTEIN will play harmonica with the band, while vocals will be handled by NAB Joint Chair and BONNEVILLE Pres./CEO BRUCE REESE, EMMIS CEO JEFF SMULYAN, SANDUSKY's NORMAN RAU, REGENT'S FRED MURR and BMI's DEL BRYANT. ABC's MITCH DOLAN and former AIR AMERICA RADIO Pres. GARY KRANTZ will play guitar, GREATER MEDIA's PETER SMYTH will be on the keyboards, NORM PHILLIPS (ex-SUSQUEHANNA) on bass, and SOUTH CENTRAL's CRAIG JACOBUS and URBan RADIO BROADCASTING's KEVIN WAGNER will be on the drums.
Former JEFFERSON-PILOT Pres.-Radio CLARKE BROWN is producing and looking for other music-minded broadcasters to join the band; reach him at clarkebrown@bellsouth.net.
The NAB RADIO SHOW is scheduled for SEPTEMBER 20-22 at the HILTON ANATOLE HOTEL in DALLAS.
