SCOTT MCKAY-owned Triple A KRML/CARMEL, CA has borrowed the concept of PopUp restaurants by hosting unique concerts around the MONTEREY BAY. Wanting to make MONTEREY/CARMEL a destination for touring bands once again, KRML has organized a series of free “PopUp concerts.”
The first one featured the rock band GOODING poolside at PORTOLA HOTEL & SPA above FISHERMAN’S WHARF, and the second was with PORTLAND-based string band FRUITION at the Old MONTEREY FARMER'S MARKET.
The two heavily attended PopUps have led to quite a buzz from the public and many more requests from local venues to host an event. The next popup is planned for JULY 18th at the historic OUTDOOR FOREST THEATER in CARMEL.
“When it comes to community radio, we wanted to walk the walk,” said KRML PD JEFF WHITE. “I wanted us to be creative with music events that are successful for the musicians, the station, sponsors and most of all, our KRML listeners!”
KRML clients sponsor the free concert, with proceeds going to pay the band and house them for the night at a local hotel.
If you have a band you'd like to plug into this series, reach pout to WHITE at (831) 244-0102, or at jeff@krml.com.
