UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON noncommercial News-Talk KUOW/SEATTLE is merging three local midday shows into one. "WEEKDAY," "THE CONVERSATION," and "KUOW PRESENTS" are being merged into a single two-hour weekday show, "THE RECORD ON KUOW," starting SEPTEMBER 3rd.
The new show, airing noon-2p (PT) weekdays, will be hosted by the three hosts of the shows being eliminated, STEVE SCHE, MARCIE SILLMAN and ROSS REYNOLDS. "KUOW PRESENTS" has already been pulled from the schedule, and "WEEKDAY" and "THE CONVERSATION" will air in "best of" mode starting MONDAY (8/19) through the end of the month, while "THE TAKEAWAY" will move from 9-10a, "HERE AND NOW" will join the lineup for 10a-noon MONDAY-THURSDAY, SCHER's "NEWS AND REVIEW" and "THE TAVIS SMILEY SHOW" will air on FRIDAYS, and "TO THE POINT" will move from 11a-noon to 8-9p MONDAY-THURSDAY, starting SEPTEMBER 3rd.
The station explained, "In 2000, KUOW set out to produce three different shows with three distinct areas of coverage: arts and culture, politics and news. Over the years, the focus of those shows has overlapped and become very similar. The natural next step in this evolution is to combine them into one efficiently produced, fast-paced program."
