Conservative radio/TV/newspaper pundit ARMSTRONG WILLIAMS says he's in negotiations to give back some of the money he got from the WHITE HOUSE to promote the "No Child Left Behind" education act, an arrangement declared illegal by the GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE last FRIDAY (9/30). USA TODAY reports that WILLIAMS says he'll give back some of the money because he didn't promote the law the way the deal required, a provision he says he tried to have removed from the contract; he claims he was hired to produce ads and not to promote the law.
The GAO ruled that another contract with conservative columnist and pundit MAGGIE GALLAGHER was not illegal because the services she provided were "not covert, self-aggrandizing, or purely partisan."
