A libel judgement against controversial former QUEBEC talk host ANDRE ARTHUR, now a Member of Parliament, dating back to 1999 and 2000, when ARTHUR was a host on CKVL-A/MONTREAL and CJMF/QUEBEC, will stand after the Canadian Supreme Court refused to review the judgement on WEDNESDAY.
Former QUEBEC Premier DANIEL JOHNSON and his wife SUZANNE MARCIL won a C$420,000 judgement against ARTHUR and the station's licensse COGECO and METROMEDIA CMR for libel based on comments ARTHUR made alleging JOHNSON had been involved inthe granting of subsidies to MARCIL's ex-husband's ski resort. The QUEBEC COurt of Appeal reduced the fine to C$320,000 but added C$50,000 to the fine because ARTHUR repeated the comments after the guilty verdict.
ARTHUR won election as an independent from the PORTNEUF-JACQUES CARTIER riding in the last election.
