Ad Spending Up 3.5% In Q2 Says Kantar Media

KANTAR MEDIA says spending increased in U.S. measured media in Q2 by 3.5% from the quarter a year earlier, with spending totaling $35.8 billion. Total spending for the first half of the year grew 2.0% to $68.9 billion.
"Ad spend has now increased for six consecutive quarters and in reaching 3.5 percent growth for Q2, had its best performance in a non-Olympic period since the end of 2010," said Chief Research Officer JON SWALLEN.
Retail was the largest advertiser in the second quarter, spending $3.8 billion in measured media, generally flat -- up 0.1% -- from last year. Spending on auto ads was up 6.9% to $3.6 billion. Telecom saw the largest increase at 19.5%, to $2.4,billion.
