CRTC Approves Bell Globemedia Ownership Changes

The CRTC has approved the plan of BCE INC. to reduce its stake in BELL GLOBEMEDIA from 68.5% to 20%, selling 20% stakes to the ONTARIO TEACHERS' PENSION PLAN and TORONTO STAR parent TORSTAR CORP., while the THOMSON FAMILY's holding company WOODBRIDGE CO. LTD. ups its share from 31.5% 5o 40%. The moves precede the pending purchase by BELL GLOBEMEDIA of CHUM LTD., the Canadian radio-TV-cable giant; BELL GLOBEMEDIA already owns the CTV television network.
