Sports KFNS-A-F/ST. LOUIS host BRYAN BURWELL was suspended for a day FRIDAY after reacting to a caller's accusation that he is an "Uncle Tom" with what the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH's DAN CAESAR terms an "obscenity-laced outburst."
The caller claimed BURWELL is harder on BARRY BONDS than he was on MARK MCGWIRE for alleged steroid use; GM EVAN CROCKER said that BURWELL "certainly had a right to be upset, but in a public form you can't use expletives like those."
BURWELL told CAESAR that "I lost my cool and though my outrage was right, the way I expressed it was wrong... There's no excuse for it, it won't happen again. I'm a journalist and broadcaster, and I'm paid to use words properly. I could have used a whole lot of words that were more appropriate. I'm better than that."
