When APPLE did its showcase for the new iPHONE models (NET NEWS, 9/10), the company's stock fell as analysts didn't think the new line was paradigm-changing enough. Apparently, the public didn't agree. SILICONBEAT.COM reports that APPLE sold 9 million iPHONE 5c and 5s phones since they went on sale last FRIDAY (9/20).
“This is our best iPHONE launch yet,” APPLE CEO TIM COOK said in the statement. “The demand for the new iPHONES has been incredible.” The news has not only buoyed APPLE stock (up $19.76, or 4.2%, to $487.17), but that the added revenue and gross margins for its latest financial reporting period will help the company meet, if not exceed, its own forecasts of $34 billion to $37 billion.
Meanwhile, APPLE described the demand for the new iOS7 handheld operating system as "strong," noting that more than 200 million iOS users have already downloaded and installed iOS 7, and was pleased with the users' reception to iTUNES RADIO. Since launching last WEDNESDAY, 11 million people have tuned into the service. The big dog in Net radio, of course, is PANDORA, which attracts 72 million active users a month.
