MICHAEL SAVAGE made official what he predicted in AUGUST (NET NEWS 8/16), telling listeners to his show WEDNESDAY night that he will take over SEAN HANNITY's 3-6p (ET) slot on HANNITY's CUMULUS-owned Talk affiliates.
SAVAGE, syndicated by CUMULUS MEDIA NETWORKS and presently in the evening slot, said, "I was born ready" for the move, announcing that the move to 3-6p (ET) will come in JANUARY. SAVAGE said that he will air on 60 CUMULUS stations, including WABC-A/NEW YORK, WLS-A/CHICAGO, WBAP-A-F/DALLAS, WMAL-A-F/WASHINGTON, KSFO-A/SAN FRANCISCO, and WJR-A/DETROIT, and called it "the biggest shakeup in talk radio history."
HANNITY, whose show is syndicated by PREMIERE NETWORKS, will be dropped by CUMULUS stations at the end of the year and will be moving to new affiliates in those markets, including CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WOR-A/NEW YORK. RUSH LIMBAUGH, whose PREMIERE show was slated for the same fate, was renewed by CUMULUS stations except in NEW YORK, where he will move from CUMULUS Talk WABC-A to WOR.
In the press release, EVP/co-COO JOHN DICKEY said, “MIKE is a proven ratings winner. Compelling, thought-provoking content is paramount – and MIKE delivers show after show.”
“With this important timeslot as well as the iconic CUMULUS stations coveted by everyone in radio, I hope to edutain the world. Politics will always be my mainstay but there is so much more to talk about. Breaking news and science, religion, films, books have always been my calling cards. With these new stations, I break out a new deck,” said SAVAGE in the release.
