The MONMOUTH-OCEAN, NJ market gets a Country station, as PRESS COMMUNICATIONS launches WKMK (K98.5) on the former WBBO/OCEAN ACRES, NJ. The station, which aired a Top 40 format (B98.5) for many years, most recently simulcast the "G-Rock Radio" Alternative format, originating on PRESS sister startion WHTG/EATONTOWN. That programming recently moved to a new 106.5 signal in OCEAN COUNTY.
“The time was right to re-introduce Country to OCEAN and MONMOUTH counties,” said GM FRANK CALDERARO. “With Country’s broad demographic appeal and audience loyalty, we are confident that the music, combined with the local news and information elements, will have an immediate impact on radio listening and radio advertising.”
The market has been without a Country station since 2001, when WWZY (Y107)/LONG BRANCH flipped to Spanish. WWZY is now owned by PRESS, and features a Gold-based AC format known as "The Breeze."
