As authorized by the CRTC in MAY (NET NEWS 5/29), CBC RADIO 2 and ESPACE MUSIQUE have begun airing commercials this week. The formerly noncommercial government-owned networks are permitted to air up to four commercials per hour for a three-year term in a maximum of two ad blocks per hour.
CBC RADIO 1 and PREMIERE CHAINE remain noncommercial. The CBC's television stations have carried advertising throughout their histories.
