COMMON FREQUENCY, INC./CASCADE EDUCATIONAL BROADCASTING SERVICE noncommercial KXRY (XRAY.FM)/PORTLAND, the former REED COLLEGE station KRRC, is bringing the progressive talk format back to the market with some familiar names attached.
Alternative weekly paper WILLAMETTE WEEK reports that former Mayoral candidate JEFFERSON SMITH and former KXL/PORTLAND host and producer ZAK BURNS have arranged to add talk shows to the planned collection of eclectic Rock programming, and the station will air former crosstown CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KPOJ-A hosts CARL WOLFSON and syndicated host THOM HARTMANN, as well as SMITH's own show. A show produced by the BLUEOREGON website and podcasters and former ALPHA Active Rock KUFO hosts CORT WEBER and BOBBY “FATBOY” ROBERTS are also part of the talk offerings.
“How do you get music and talk radio to work together?” SMITH told the paper. “We adopted the mullet model -- business in the front, party in the back.”
The station has yet to complete reconstruction of transmission facilities and may launch online on HALLOWEEN before the station is back on the air.
