FREDDIE COLON has decided to end his pursuit for the next radio gig, announcing his retirement from his lifelong ambition. He most recently worked for CBS RADIO Classic Hits KOOL-FM/PHOENIX. He left the station in MAY 2012. There was also a brief weekend run at KOOL in 2005 and 2006. COLON told ALL ACCESS that the landscape has changed since he first opened the mic at 92 WKTU/NEW YORK more than three decades ago.
"After 31 years, music has gone from MICHAEL JACKSON memorable performance at the GRAMMYS to MILEY CYRUS' recent performance. I was blessed to see and be part of the glory days of radio and WABC, 92 WKTU, WBLS, DAN INGRAM and FRANKIE CROCKER and PACO."
COLON had a pair of stints at WKTU, returning to host mornings in the mid-1990s. He also had a long-running weekend show at EMMIS Hip-Hop WQHT (HOT 97).
Other stops in NEW YORK for COLON included WLTW and the defunct Dance station JAMMIN' 105.
"Times have changed so has the industry. It's like being a round peg trying to fit in a square hole. I've accomplished what many dream of," COLON said. "Time to walk away."
