As expected, APPLE announced that it will hold its next product showcase on OCTOBER 22nd, as it has sent out invites that read: "We still have a lot to cover," ZDNET reports. While observers expect the debut of the next-generation iPAD models, including the iPAD mini, with the possibility of a new MACBOOK Air and/or MACBOOK Pro, behind the scenes APPLE had beefed up its executive staff with two hires from the fashion industry.
The APPLE showcase will be held at the YERBA BUENA CENTER FOR THE ARTS in SAN FRANCISCO, starting at 10a PT. On top of the new iPADS, pundits expect APPLE to debut its next-generation desktop operating system, OS X Mavericks. The company has already "sent out the "gold master" version of the software to developers on OCTOBER 3rd, allowing app makers to finalize their desktop software with the new features and application hooks. It lands with multi-monitor support; desktop-versions of APPLE Maps and iBOOKS; improved notifications; and new battery-saving technology, such as "App Nap," which can help conserve power."
Angela Ahrendts Named SVP/Strategy and Operation
Meanwhile, the NY TIMES reports that APPLE has appointed ANGELA AHRENDTS SVP/Strategy and Operation of its retail and online stores, starting next spring. Previously, she was the chief executive of BURBERRY, the British high-end fashion company.
AHRENDTS is the second executive hired by APPLE with roots in high fashion. This summer, the company brought former YVES SAINT LAURENT chief executive PAUL DENEVE on board to work on special projects. One such special project could be the much-rumored Internet-connected iWATCH. AHRENDTS is reported to also oversee APPLE's lucrative retail chain.
“I am thrilled that ANGELA will be joining our team,” APPLE CEO TIM COOK said in a statement. “She shares our values and our focus on innovation, and she places the same strong emphasis as we do on the customer experience. She has shown herself to be an extraordinary leader throughout her career and has a proven track record.”
