As EDDIE "PIOLIN" SOTELO begins his first full week at SIRIUSXM (NET NEWS 10/18), reports say a handful of former UNIVISION RADIO employees are alleging harassing behavior. The staffers worked for PIOLIN on his popular PIOLIN POR LA MANANA show. They were let go before the program's abrupt termination JULY 22nd.
A month later, SOTELO sued the six ex-staffers, alleging that as a group they sought to extort as much as $4.9 million from him.
However, in their court filing, the former workers alleged that as SOTELO's star power grew at UNIVISION his behavior toward staff members turned abusive. He allegedly humiliated workers by using derogatory names. Court papers also allege SOTELO went further, licking and biting them, rubbing his body against theirs, and grabbing his genitals.
The group tolerated the alleged behavior because they feared they would lose their jobs if they complained, according to the filing.
SOTELO previously stated that he was the victim of a smear campaign.
SOTELO's successful show was canceled after a veteran producer complained to UNIVISION execs that he was being tormented by SOTELO, the LOS ANGELES TIMES reports.
