The lawsuit filed by a police officer against CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WHAS-A/LOUISVILLE host TERRY MEINERS after MEINERS was found not guilty by a JEFFERSON COUNTY District Court jury of speeding has been dismissed.
FOX affiliate WDRB-TV/LOUISVILLE reports that JEFFERSON Circuit Court Judge MARY SHAW dismissed Officer SAM CROMITY's defamation suit against MEINERS and CLEAR CHANNEL for on-air comments about the incident, saying that MEINERS' comments were "non-actionable expressions of opinion" about the MARCH 2011 incident.
MEINERS allegedly called CROMITY a "liar," and "Black Car Barney" (CROMITY is African-American; MEINERS said that the "Black" referred to outlaw Black Bart and ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW character BARNEY FIFE); the host was found not guilty of the underlying speeding ticket (75 mph in a 55 mph zone) in NOVEMBER 2011, and CROMITY sued in MARCH 2012.
