Sports Host Exits 640 Sports/South Florida For Tweet Offering $1,000 To Miami Players To 'Take Out' FSU Running Back

JAMES CRYSTAL RADIO Sports WMEN-A (640 SPORTS)/WEST PALM BEACH host DAN SILEO has exited the station after tweeting a $1,000 bounty for UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI football players to "take out" FLORIDA STATE running back DEVONTA FREEMAN.
CBSSPORTS.COM reports that SILEO, a former MIAMI player, wrote (all sic'd), "in 6 weeks ... I will PAY A $1000 BUCKS TO ANY @hurricanesports PLAYER TO TAKES THIS KID OUT #MHFREEMAN" and "$1,000 BUCKS!!!!......NEVER LET ANYBODY DO THIS AGAIN..LOSING IS ONE THING!!...NOT LIKE THIS #JUSTICE." Later, he tweeted "LISTEN.....FOLKS...NO WAY would I EVER HURT an FSU PLAYER KIKE THAT!!.....CANES...I apologize!!...." and ".....I take the tweet back.......I am PISSED at HIM...BUT in NO WAY did I mean that 1000....JUST a TWEET."
And on FACEBOOK, SILEO posted, "Listen FOLKS.........I saw this PICTURE of an FSU player shooting the U sign at the players in Saturday nights game.....I said on TWITTER that I would PAY anybody on the HURRICANE team in 6 weeks to take him out.....IN NO WAY did I mean that...and It was an EX PLAYERS thought that I probably should have not said that.....NO QUESTION I would NEVER want a player HURT!!....EVER!!....It was a JOKE....i even posted so...minutes after I posted it.....That being said..BAD JOKE....HOPE all of u understand...THANK U"
Later MONDAY, SILEO posted on FACEBOOK, "I want to first start this letter off by saying..We thank 640 AM SPORTS for having us on the station the last few months..was VERY COOL!!....With that...640 and myself are parting ways over a TWEET I made about an FSU player who I thought was DISRESPECTING the UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI...It was a moment of emotion when I said I would like to pay $1000 for anybody to take him out.....NOW....I NEVER thought ANYBODY would take that serious but they have...a MOUNTAIN of BACKLASH has come against 640 and my family...There are NOW DEATH THREATS against me and my family and I have hired a private COP to protect US....So we UNDERSTAND that some of U took my comment serious.....AGAIN....Was just an EX Player saying a feeling that was wrong....To FSU...we APOLOGIZE...NO WAY would I ever want a kid hurt.....GOOD LUCK TO 640 AND THE CANES!"
Station: Silio Contract 'Terminated'
The station sent out its own statement on SILIO's departure: "As a result of DAN SILEO's action on his personal TWITTER account on NOVEMBER 3rd, WMEN has terminated the independent contractor relationship with the station. The ownership, staff and management of WMEN 640 Sports do not condone his actions which have no place in sports."
