As widely reported last month (NET NEWS 10/18), the NEW YORK METS are moving to CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WOR-A/NEW YORK under a five-year deal that includes marketing on CLEAR CHANNEL's digital, outdoor, and music and entertainment event platforms as well as on sister Top 40 WHTZ (Z100), Top 40/Rhythmic WKTU, AC WLTW (106.7 LITE FM), Classic Rock WAXQ (Q104.3), and Urban WWPR (POWER 105.1). The deal also will have CLEAR CHANNEL "enhancing" in-game entertainment at CITI FIELD and "jointly exploring" production and promotion of concerts, festivals, and "large-scale entertainment events" at the QUEENS ballpark.
METS COO JEFF WILPON said, "This breakthrough partnership provides us with the ability to serve our loyal fans and attract a new generation of fans through CLEAR CHANNEL's massive reach and ability to target key demographics across the NEW YORK market. Our agreement delivers more promotion of the club to a broader audience than this franchise ever has had before with additional opportunities to advance our efforts to make CITI FIELD one of the leading sports and entertainment destinations in the country."
CLEAR CHANNEL MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT Chairman/CEO JOHN HOGAN added, "WOR is a powerful, high-potential complement to our existing NEW YORK brands, and it's an incredible opportunity for us to be able to bring the METS programming to WOR's lineup and the rest of our NEW YORK cluster, We look at this investment not only as an opportunity to establish WOR as a destination to a broader audience, but to also to drive further awareness and growth of the METS through our unique multi-platform capabilities and programming -- radio, digital, outdoor and live events."
The METS were left looking for a new radio home after the team's longtime flagship CBS RADIO Sports WFAN-A-F dropped them in favor of the NEW YORK YANKEES after the 2013 season.
