ROGERS MEDIA has announced 94 layoffs company-wide, a 2% cut in its workforce encompassing radio, TV, cable and print. The Canadian media owner did not issue specifics on how many of the layoffs came in the radio division, although CTV reports that 19 positions were cut at the company's OTTAWA and HALIFAX clusters.
The OTTAWA CITIZEN is reporting that News CIWW (1310 NEWS)/OTTAWA would limit its all-News format to 5:30-10a and 3-8p and simulcast sister Sports CJCL-A (SPORTSNET 590 THE FAN)/TORONTO at other times.
METRO/HALIFAX reports that News CJNI (NEWS 95.7)/HALIFAX is doing the same, with a dozen positions eliminated and mid-morning host JORDI MORGAN, sports anchor SCOTT MACINTOSH, morning anchor ERICA MUNN, morning news editor CONNIE THIESSEN, producer MELISSA MANCINI, reporters DESIREE FINHERT and AMANDA DEBISON, and sister AC CFLT (LITE 92.9) host JAMIE PATTERSON plus three more among those laid off. The HALIFAX CHRONICLE HERALD added that RICK HOWE has moved to the mid-morning slot and TODD VEINOTTE continues in the afternoon.
