HUNTER HAYES took home Song of the Year honors, RODNEY CLAWSON was named Songwriter of the Year and SONY/ATV MUSIC PUBLISHING NASHVILLE won Publisher of the Year at TUESDAY night’s (11/5) 61st BROADCAST MUSIC, INC. (BMI) AWARDS.
HAYES and TROY VERGES co-penned “Wanted,” which HAYES recorded and took to #1 on the MEDIABASE Country charts in SEPTEMBER of 2012.
CLAWSON has writing credits on six of the most-performed songs of the past year, including “Drink On It,” recorded by BLAKE SHELTON and “Drunk On You,” performed by LUKE BRYAN.
SONY/ATV published 20 of the 50 most-performed songs of the year, including “Cruise” by FLORIDA GEORGIA Line, “Red Solo Cup” by TOBY KEITH, “Pontoon” by LITTLE BIG TOWN and many others.
Legendary songwriter DEAN DILLON was also honored as a BMI Icon at the ceremony, an award recognizing his prolific career that includes 54 songs recorded by Country Music Hall of Famer GEORGE STRAIT. LUKE BRYAN, LEE ANN WOMACK and STRAIT all paid homage to DILLON with performances of his songs.
