UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON/HOUSTON PUBLIC MEDIA Classical KUHA (CLASSICAL 91.7)/HOUSTON has eliminated eight full-time positions and cut the midday "FRONT ROW" show, reports the HOUSTON CHRONICLE.
Those laid off include hosts ELAINE KENNEDY and CHRIS JOHNSON; CULTUREMAP HOUSTON adds BOB STEVENSON and CHRIS HATHAWAY to the list, and notes that the move came after the station fell short of its goal in a recent nine-day fundraising campaign, a claim that the station denied in a subsequent communication to the site.
Executive Director LISA SHUMATE told the CHRONICLE that the cuts will allow the station to "devote more resources to its engineering, production and recording operation," with Content Director CAPELLA TUCKER leading an Arts and Culture Unit to create programming for KUHA and sister News-Talk KUHF and PBS affiliate KUHF-TV.
