In the wake of the scandals enveloping him and his administration, TORONTO Mayor ROB FORD, along with his brother, Councillor DOUG FORD, are ending their weekly "THE CITY" radio show on BELL MEDIA News-Talk CFRB-A (NEWSTALK 1010)/TORONTO.
The station posted FRIDAY that the FORDS and the station "have mutually determined to conclude broadcasts of THE CITY, ending with last week’s show. Of course, Mayor FORD and Councillor FORD remain welcome at any time as guests on NEWSTALK 1010."
Mayor FORD's office issued a statement later FRIDAY reading, "Councillor FORD and I would like to thank (PD) MIKE BENDIXEN and the team at NEWSTALK 1010 for the opportunity to voice our opinions and give TORONTO residents an unfiltered take on the work we do everyday at TORONTO CITY HALL. NEWSTALK 1010 is a great station and it was a pleasure to work with MIKE and the team. We wish them all the best moving forward."
FORD has been embroiled in a scandal involving his drug and alcohol use that has dogged him for several months since GAWKER and the TORONTO STAR reported that they had seen a video showing the Mayor smoking crack. After months of dodging the question and challenging the existence of the tape (which had not been released by its owners), FORD this week admitted to using the drug and apologized; another video then surfaced showing the Mayor in an apparent drunken rant threatening to kill an unnamed person.
