The most recent posting on NEXTRADIO’s blog show burgeoning acceptance and use of the FM chip in smartphones. The app has now been downloaded over 61,000 times, up almost 30% from 48,000 just two weeks ago (NET NEWS, 10/28), with the app retention rate basically holding steady at 83%
The app was used to tune in over 4,700 FM stations -- an increase of 300 -- totaling over 24,000 hours of listening, up over 40% from OCT. 28th's accounting of 17,000.
The reason for the increase: "The new NEXTRADIO-enabled smartphones hit the market on FRIDAY from SPRINT. It’s our biggest device launch yet -- doubling our suite. They included the new LG G2, the SAMSUNG GALAXY MEGA™, and the SAMSUNG GALAXY S® 4 Mini. Later this month, VIRGIN MOBILE (a part of the SPRINT Network) will introduce a NEXTRADIO-enabled pre-paid smartphone. The pay-as-you-go/no-contract market is inherently bandwidth-capped, so the app consuming next to nothing is a way for that user base to enjoy listening without hesitation."
