It was a big night for TAYLOR SWIFT, who earned top honors at the 2013 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS last night in LOS ANGELES, taking home the Artist Of The Year award in the fan-voted event. SWIFT beat out fellow nominees MACKLEMORE & LEWIS, RIHANNA, BRUNO MARS and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE.
"My lucky number is 13, and so far you guys have made 2013 the most magical year so far," she said during her acceptance speech. "I'm 23 and I have no idea what's going to happen to me ... I love you so much. It's unbelievable."
SWIFT also won for FAVORITE COUNTRY ALBUM, for her album "Red," and for Favorite Female Country Artist. "I cannot believe what you've done in the last year," said SWIFT. "This album came out almost exactly a year ago and the fact that six million of you went out and bought it is crazy. Thank you, you are everything to me. I really appreciate this." Swift thanked radio when she received yet another awards -- favorite female Country artist.
Other big winners included Favorite Pop/Rock Male, which was awarded to JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. "These are voted on by the fans -- everyone who took to their TWITTER -- and got busy, this means so much to me, thank you," he said. TIMBERLAKE also won two other awards: Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Album.
RIHANNA won for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, and for the first-ever AMA Icon Award, and said to her Mom, "Just about 20 years ago I began giving your life a living hell with my husky -- man voice, as you called it. I annoyed every one of my neighbors -- I can't believe at 25 years old I'm holding an Icon Award. That sounds weird saying that out loud."
ONE DIRECTION picked up two awards, Favorite Pop/Rock Group and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for “Take Me Home.”
MACKLEMORE and RYAN LEWIS won for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album, accepting he award via live satellite from MIAMI, and BEN HAGGERTY (MACKLEMORE), said, "Due to the fact that we are in FLORIDA tonight accepting this award I want to acknowledge TRAYVON MARTIN and the hundreds and hundreds of kids each year that are dying due to racial profiling and the violence that follows it. This is really happening. These are our friends, our neighbors, our peers and our fans, and it's time that we look out for the youth and fight against racism and the laws that protect it."
Newcomer ARIANA GRANDE performed during the show, and won an AMA for Best New Artist.
FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE and NELLY were awarded Best New Single for their hit "Cruise."
The show opened with KATY PERRY, donned in a traditional Japanese dress, performing her new single, "Unconditionally." Other performances included ONE DIRECTION with "Story of My Life," IMAGINE DRAGONS performing “Radioactive” and host PITBULL and KE$HA teaming up for "Timber." LADY GAGA, coming onstage on a horse, began her performance by answering some phone calls, the last one being from R. KELLY, or "President KELLY," as GAGA called him. They then sang "Do What U Want." TLC reunited to sing "Waterfalls."
And what would an awards show be without a MILEY CYRUS moment? Wrapping up the show singing "Wrecking Ball," CYRUS came out in a bikini-like costume filled with cat images. The theme continued when an image of a cat appeared on the screen lip-syncing throughout the entire song.
