NEXTRADIO reported continued growth in the use and acceptance of its FM chip in smartphones after its launch 100 days ago. In the past two weeks, app downloads has grown from over 61,000 to over 75,000 (over 20% growth); users tuned into over 5,100 FM radio stations, up 400 (almost 10%) from the last report (NET NEWS, 11/11); and they listened for over 33,000 hours, an increase of over 30%.
"Now that we’re past the 90-day threshold and have a decent amount of saturation to draw samples from, we can start to gather conclusions about listening habits of our users over time," the blog reports. "This will tell a better story -- user retention as opposed to just app retention. Since the app is preloaded on the phone, we expect to have a high app retention rate, and the consistent 83-85% shows that. We don’t see that changing much. So stay tuned for a new and different study. One note though: being preloaded on the phone and having that tremendous app retention means that we’re afforded the luxury of a nice big constituency when NEXTRADIO strengthens with content and consumer awareness reaches a higher plan."
