40 Years Later, KVET-A's Jon Madani Finally Gets To Light Austin Christmas Tree

CLEAR CHANNEL Sports KVET-A (AM 1300 THE ZONE)/AUSTIN host JON MADANI got a second chance to light AUSTIN's ZILKER PARK CHRISTMAS tree ... 40 years late.

FOX O&O KTBC-TV (FOX 7)/AUSTIN reports that MADANI won a contest to light the tree in 1973, when he was in third grade, but that the energy crisis intervened to keep the tree dark.  The city offered MADANI the chance to light the tree this year, and MADANI said, "Lighting the tree, I really didn't know what I was missing but year after year after year you drive up and down MoPac and you see it lit.  It's a reminder ... 'ahh, I never got to light that tree.'  So 40 years later, I'm happy to be here."
