CLEAR CHANNEL Alternative WWDC (DC101)/WASHINGTON is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the station's predecessor, WWDC-A-F, being, by its own assertion, the first radio station in AMERICA to play THE BEATLES' "I Want to Hold Your Hand," the hit that launched a revolution in pop and rock music.

On DECEMBER 17, 1963, CARROLL JAMES spun the single, flown over from ENGLAND, and began the British Invasion.  This video, with audio from DC101 recorded on the 20th anniversary of the event, includes JAMES, who passed away in 1997, explaining how he came to get the record and play it first:
