In celebration of TERRI HEMMERT’s 40 years at CBS Triple A WXRT/CHICAGO MAYOR RAHM EMANUEL made a surprise visit to the studios to declare DECEMBER 18th, 2013 TERRI HEMMERT DAY IN CHICAGO!
HEMMERT joined WXRT in 1973 as overnight announcer and Public Affairs Director. In 1981, she became Chicago’s first female host of a morning-drive radio program, and has been XRT’s midday DJ since 1992. She has been duly honored at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum as one of the nation’s most influential radio personalities. She is also widely respected as the Midwest’s foremost authority on THE BEATLES, and continues to host the popular weekly program, “Breakfast With The Beatles,” on WXRT.
In addition to working at WXRT, HEMMERT has been a member of the faculty in the Broadcasting Department at COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO for over 35 years, serves as co-host for the CHICAGO SYMPHONY’s Classic Encounters series, regularly supports numerous local not-for-profit organizations, and has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the CHICAGO chapter of the RECORDING ACADEMY.
PD NORM WINER said, “Rarely has a local radio personality been so adored and absorbed by her community, serving as a constant source of inspiration. TERRI sets an almost impossible example for us, as one of the most amazing, generous, thoughtful and hard-working people we have ever known. All of us here at XRT are so fortunate to be her colleagues and her friends.”
