The CRTC has rejected an application by CITY CHURCH HALIFAX to change the frequency of its low power Religion FM CIRP (LIFE 94.7)/SPRYFIELD (HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY), NS from 94.7 to 97.5 FM and increase power from 50 watts to 454 watts.
The licensee cited technical difficulties as the basis of its application, but an intervention by COBEQUID RADIO SOCIETY asked why, since the license was recently granted, CITY CHURCH applied for the 94.7 FM frequency in the first place, knowing its limitations. In addition, the agency noted that a close-to-full Class A facility could be licensed on 97.5, one of the last available FM frequencies in the HALIFAX market, and that the proposed power increase and frequency change would not serve the licensee's stated goal of improving service to rural areas.
