TODAY (12/20) is the final show for JOHN GAMBLING after 35 years on NEW YORK radio, mostly at CCM+E Talk WOR-A/NEW YORK. GAMBLING annlounced his retirement in NOVEMBER (NET NEWS 12/11).
It's also time to say goodbye to "FRIDAYS With MIKE."
THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reports, "almost every FRIDAY for 12 years, Mayor MICHAEL BLOOMBERG has tooled over to the studios of first WABC (770 AM) and then WOR (710 AM) to do an hour on the air with morning host JOHN GAMBLING. They have their final session FRIDAY, as BLOOMBERG prepares to leave office and GAMBLING, by coincidence, marks the final day of his family's astonishing 88-year run as NEW YORK morning radio personalities."
When he announced his retirement, GAMBLING said, "I have done and accomplished so much - my radio career has given me the privilege to entertain and inform millions of New Yorkers. Each day, to watch the greatest city on earth from behind the microphone has been a thrill and I've been blessed with an audience that has been loyal and engaging. To say it has been exciting doesn¹t come close to the joy I have had."
