About the same number of radio stations switched hands in 2013 as in 2012, making for a slow year for transactions, according to BIA/KELSEY's "Media Access Pro," a comprehensive data service and analytical software that tracks to entire radio industry. The largest transaction of the year were the 53 stations sold by CUMULUS MEDIA to TOWNSQUARE MEDIA LLC in AUGUST, estimated to be $238 million.
"The slight change in total sales of radio stations in 2013 is evidenced by the few number of large transactions," said VP MARK FRATRIK."This year we anticipate a slight increase as the economy gathers some strength."
BIA/KELSEY tracks the value of transactions in radio and the number of radio stations sold on a monthly and year-to-date basis on its website.
