UTV national U.K. Sports station TALKSPORT is boycotting TWITTER over what the station perceives as inaction by the social media site towards racist and abusive tweets directed at host and former Premiere League soccer player STAN COLLYMORE, which COLLYMORE has retweeted.
THE INDEPENDENT reports that CEO SCOTT TAUNTON said, "We are dismayed at the lack of response and perceived inaction by TWITTER. Racist or abusive messages of this nature are illegal and unacceptable.... We have a duty of care to all our staff and presenters and until I am satisfied that Twitter is treating this seriously we will no longer promote Twitter accounts or use tweets on-air."
The tweets came after COLLYMORE charged on the air that LIVERPOOL star LUIS SUAREZ took a dive in the match against ASTON VILLA last weekend. SUAREZ, who has been long criticized by some fans of being prone to diving, and has been suspended for racial abuse targeting MANCHESTER UNITED's PATRICE EVRA and for apparently biting CHELSEA's BRANISLAV IVANOVIC. COLLYMORE, for his part, has deleted his TWITTER account.
