CRTC Approves Corus Acquisition Of Bell Ottawa Spinoffs

The CRTC has approved the spinoff by BCE INC. (BELL MEDIA) of Active Rock CKQB (106.9 THE BEAR) and Classic Hits CJOT (BOOM 99.7)/OTTAWA and CKQB retransmitter CKQB-FM-1 (THE BEAR 99.7)/PEMBROKE, ON to CORUS ENTERTAINMENT INC. for C$13 million.
The approval is conditioned on CORUS contributing $954,647 to the Canadian broadcasting system (the RADIO STARMAKER FUND, FACTOR, MUSICFEST CANADA and the NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE ORCHESTRA Artist Training Programs, and CRFC) and instituting safeguards for all of its stations as a condition of license guaranteeing "commercially reasonable access to advertising availabilities to unrelated operators of broadcasting undertakings and telecommunications service providers."
