CBS RADIO Sports WIP-F/PHILADELPHIA morning host ANGELO CATALDI was saved from choking on a cheesesteak MONDAY by the quick action of fellow WIP personality SPIKE ESKIN, who administered the Heimlich maneuver, reports PHILLY.COM's PETER MUCHA.
The incident happened during the taping outside WIP's studio of a YOUTUBE spoof for the morning show's upcoming WING BOWL 22 event, when CATALDI, who was to take a bite of a cheesesteak while moving around, found the food blocking his throat. He ran into the building, where ESKIN did the procedure that saved CATALDI.
Asked on Twitter whether he had ever done the Heimlich before, ESKIN responded, "I haven't, but like, I didn't have much of an option. It was give it a try or dead ANGELO." And he posted, "Haha, I've been part of a headline three times now. When I got fired, when I got engaged, now when I saved ANGELO. I make it count." And to those suggesting that the story was a publicity stunt for WING BOWL, ESKIN added, "I’m not surprised that anyone thinks it, but yes, it definitely happened."
