PUBLIC RADIO EXCHANGE (PRX), the distributor of programming to public radio stations, has launched RADIOTOPIA, a new podcast network it describes as delivering "story-driven public radio shows" by "the best emerging and established talent."
The network, partially funded by a $200,000 grant from the JOHN S. AND JAMES L. KNIGHT FOUNDATION, is launching with shows including ROMAN MARS' design and architecture show 99% INVISIBLE, RADIO DIARIES, BENJAMIN WALKER's THEORY OF EVERYTHING, LEA THAU's STRANGERS, LOVE + RADIO, THE TRUTH, and FUGITIVE WAVES. MAILCHIMP is on board as a launch sponsor.
CEO JAKE SHAPIRO said, “PRX is creating a platform where the art form's innovators, risk-takers and most gifted producers connect with an audience, expand their own brands, and flourish. RADIOTOPIA closes the gap between listeners who increasingly seek content on-demand and producers expanding the sound and experience of public radio.”
KNIGHT FOUNDATION VP/Journalism and Media Innovation MICHAEL MANESS added, "PRX is responding to a demand for flexibility from listeners who are increasingly turning away from traditional news sources and platforms. With this as a basis, the network will create a model to reach and inform wide public audiences using digital platforms as a gateway to mainstream success.”
